काटरक समस्या - डॉ सुभद्र झा

  1. पढलहु. नीक लागल इतिहास जानी.ई पोथी साहित्य अकादमी द्वारा पुरस्कृत सेहो अछि . हमर ई सौभाग्य अछि जे डॉ. सुभद्र झा अपन भातिज महारुद्र झा द्वारा (२१.१२.१९९६क) द्वारा संवाद पठेने छलाह-"हम बहुतक गुरु रह्लाहू, डॉ. धनाकर ठाकुर क चेला बने चाहैत छी,' जाही पर हम कह्लियेन्ही 'अहा मजाक करैत छी ' त महारुद्रजी कहलाह -' कक्का कहलाह अछि जन्हिना कह्लियह तहिना कहियौन्ही," अस्तु -हमरा सन एक नब आ युवा लेल ओ आशीर्वाद छल - २८.५.१९९७ क भोरमे फोन आयल- 'हम सुभद्र झा बजैत छी ' पूछलियेन्ही- 'नागदाह्स' नहीं रांचीमे हरम बेटी छथि- अशोकनगर में, कखन भेंट करय आऊ,' हम कह्लियैन्ही- 'अहा कियैक हम आयब १२ बजे क बाद ड्यूटी ख़त्म भेला पर- ओही समय हम कार चलबे छलहु- करीब १२१० में पन्हुच्लाहू- हुनक जमे अमरनाथजी निकललाह घंटी सुनी. 'ओ बाबूजी स भेंट करब' आ फेर सुभद्र झा स्वयम .. प्रणाम केलियेन्ही- कहैत चाहती- 'हम बुझैत छलहु अहाँ वयसगर होयब - लेकिन जे हम कहलहु ताहि पर स्टांड करैत छी .' हम हुनका स समय लेल आ सान्झ्मे अशोक झा घोघरडीहा क सी ६६ श्यामली में बिसर भेल जाती ओ बजलाह -Dr.Subhadra Jha sange baisar-Maithili swatantra bhasha jakar Hindi-Benglame anuvad sambhav nahi-'dwisarvanam pad prabhave' Urdu Bhasha thike nahee jakar ekhu kriyapad Hindisan .. ओ प्रथम अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अमिथिली सम्मलेन लेल एक आलेख १९९३ में पठेने छलाह 'मिथिले इक स्वतंत्र भाषा अछि हिन्दी या बंगलाक उपभाषा नहि.

    It was an enchanting talk when in the free moments, I could know that Dayanathji and Budhinathji?s father Pt. Sabhakant Jha ?Shshtri? (1907-1977) was a pioneer Maithili worker at Kolkata where Yatriji used to come and stay for long.

    Sabhakant Jha was from village Nagdah , Madhubani and was also the editor of the Sachitra Ayurveda which I had seen in my childhood in the library of my father(1918 born).

    No wonder, Dayanathji had said to) Maithili workers at night while seeing them off,?maithili hamar swans achhi, hamar pranvayu achhi, tain ehen vyavstha kari je hamara oxygen bhetait rahay.? He had a by-pass not long ago and feeling that he would require rest and will not be able to move, I had in fact removed his name from the list of vice-presidents (but later added again , seeing that he was moving from Kolkata to Hyderabad to Bangalore and Chennai).

    Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad (AMP) is a name Dayanathji had suggested first when I had invited a choice from among nine names which I cannot recall now, maybe in the files at Ranchi but those were like :

    Vishwa Maithili/Parishad/Sangh/Mahasangh
    Antarrashtriya Maithili parishad/Sangh/Mahasangh
    Vishwa Maithil Sangh/mahasangh/Parishad.

    Then in the I International Maithili Conference in 1993 at Ranchi he could not come due to spinal injury but Buddhinathji had come who later also attended conferences at Rourkela, Chennai and Dhanbad.

    I asked Buddhinathji that though Dr. Subhadra Jha had great affection to me(so much so that he had asked Maharudra Jha to convey me with a warning not to distort his words, ?I have been teacher of many but want to be student of Dhanakar Thakur,for Maithili work? and when he saw me first he said,?anahke ham bayasgar bujhait chhalanhu muda je ham kahlanhu, tahi par ham stand karait chee,?) whether he had protested against the inclusion of Maithili in the Sahitya Akademy?

    Budhinathji retorted that those who say are ignorant of the fact that for Dr. Subhadra Jha Maithili in the Sahitya Akademy was just like giving something to the angry child.

    Maithili as per him Maithili deserved much more and it was he who had pleaded before the Kaka Kalelkar Commission for Maithili that it was a separate language, not a part of Hindi. He was willing that every one should learn Tirhuta which many Maithili teachers did not like, as they were not knowing it.

  3. In those days of Mithila movement Kolkata was its Mecca. I recall Mithilenduji?s name is cited that he started the Mithila Navyuvak Sangh in 1937 probably. He was from Havi-Bhauar village. Earlier in 1917 Babuaji Mishra of Kilakh was instrumental in getting maithili included in the Kolkata University.

    Even before that at jaipur-Ajmer Maithils were active who published first Maithili magazine Maithil Hit Sadhan in 1905,quickly followed by Mithila Mod by Pt. Murlidhar Jha at Varanasi which was long lived. While Varanasi Maithils? service is immense it was their mistake to adopt Deonagari script (as those were just available for printing Hindi and Maithils were scholars of basically of Sanskrit and hence had no hesitation in adopting its script) which created a confusion that it was part of Hindi more so as (Indian) Mithila was part of Bihar since it was carved out with Orissa from Bengal presidency.

    Though with the same token capital was shifted from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911(as an aftermath of the unsuccessful attempt to divide East Bengal which in fact was the seed of the partition of India in 1947).

    Votaries of Bihar were mostly advocates who wanted High Court at Patna and though soon Orissa to became out as a first linguistic state of the country in 1936, Maithili was forgotten and it in fact had rotten in Bihar with which it has no cultural similarities- if it is then it much more with the Bengla and had been it in Bengal, the lot of Maithils and Mithila would have been better as none of the Bengalis have been so far opponents of Maithili and they rather revere Maithili and Vidaypati as their origin which is true linguistically.

    Those of migrant from Mithila went to Kolkata found a congenial atmosphere to promote the cause of Mithila, mostly in early post-Independence era when linguistic states were demanded. Mithil movement though pioneered by Mithila Keshari Babu Janakinandan Singh of Madhepur, Madhubani (his hundreds of followers were arrested at Asnsol in way to Kolkata in 1953 as they were going to present a petition to Pt. Nehru at the Kalyani Congress; one among them my uncle Madhukar Thakur had told me all events which I have written in the columns of the Ranchi express in 1992 and am a votary of separate Mithila state since then which could get a fillip by Jaykant Mishra when he accepted presidentship of the Mithila Rajya Sanghrash Samiti at Madhubani on January 8,1996 and later when Pt. Tarakant Jha on my persisten request joined Mithila movement whole-hertedly on 3.8.2000.

  4. However, the saga of Maithili workers from Kolkata (and other places) need correct documentation which will be a source of inspiration to coming generation. Maithili?s recognition in the Sahitya Akademy was largely possible by the efforts of Babu Saheb Chaudhary of Dularpur who was at Kolkata.

    Yatriji was the source of inspiration for founding the Chetna samiti at Patna with a clear aim of getting statehood to Maithili though this line was left by Patna workers maybe feeling comfortable in the capital? s comforts.
    Though the Maithili movement was tracked to get recognition in the VIII Schedule, my notion is had we not worked for Mithila state even this would not have been given by Vajpayee .
    And at the same time, I think if the same Kolkata workers would have been at Delhi we would have get Mithila state easier than Uttarakhandis/Chhattisgarhis/Jharkhandis could get as Mithila?s claim was on more sound footings than any of those states were made either in 1950s or thereafter.

    A demand for statehood colease persons of diverse spectra which unfortunately the sweetest mother tongue Maithili could not or cannot do as any language not given state patronage is not flourishing and is said to divide in dialects as we see for so-called Angika or Bajjika which are nothing but southern and western Maithili.

    From Tripura to West Bengal (via Bangladesh), to Jharkhand Bengla is one language but Darbhanga to Deoghar Maithili is not ? though it is linguistically same it had been made separate only because there was no Mithila state, the language of which could have been standardized for writing and speaking.
    Yet the contribution of Kolkata Maithils is immense.

    While during free talk there at Hyderabad Pt. Deonarayan Jha?s (from Darbhanga?s vicinity Sundarpur village) name came whose one song was immortal:
    ?Dauru-dauru yau Hanuman
    Maithilik angan me
    Paisal Ravank santan.?

    Babu Bholala Das of Darbhanga was recognized by people as Maithili-Dadhichi though Dr. Subhadra Jha had objection to it(might be he himself was the pioneer linguist to establish Maithili on linguistic horizon to which I think George Grierson?s role was immense who has written so since 1881 and had provided its grammar etc.).

  5. हमर ओ ब्लॉग काफी लंबा अछि आ ओही सम्यक ज्ञान पर आधारित अछि - ई पोथी ने डॉ सुभद्रा झा निथिला राज्य आन्दोलांक बारे में किछु नहीं लिखने छथि ( संभव ओ अल्पकालिक आ अप्रभावी १९५०-५६ क बीच रहल ) लेकिन कुल मिलाक्य आब हमरा ई अनुभव होइत अछि जे भाषाइ अंदोलन ठीक ओ अपन सफलता पएलक लेकिन राज्य आन्दोलन १९५०-५६ के बीच सेहो मैथिल मैथिल मानस द्वारा ओहिना उपेक्षित रहल जेना १९९२-९४ स प्रारंभ एही तोड़ क हमरा सन छोट व्यक्तिक द्वारा - हम स्वयम एही लेल आमंत्रित होइतहू भागलपुर , वाराणसी , दिल्ली क पालममे आमंत्रित होइतहुन उपेक्षित भेल छी ( ओना अपमान स बेशी मान कायल काज क अनुपातमे हमरा भेटल अछि ) - जयकांत बाबु २०.११.१९९४ क ताराबाबू ३.८.२००० क हमरा स सहमत भय गेलाह जे राज्यक बिना भाषा क सेहो सुरक्षा नही होयत .. आब काफी युवा सब एहिमे लागल छथि - हुनकास आग्रह जे नब-नब संगठन बना काज कर्क बजाय अंतर राष्ट्रिय मैथिली परिषद् में जुतथी जकरा बाबु साहेब , डॉ लक्ष्मण झा , डॉ जयकांत मिश्र, डॉ सुभद्र झा समान पुराण पीढी ( आजुक युवाक पितामह आ हमरा संके पिताक पीढीकें) मान्लथी
