MITHILA movement after a quarter century of my involvement seems have been taken up by many more groups I could ever imagine in 1992 and is also in the GOI agenda as tabled in the Parliament sometimes back as one among 10 new aspirant states...In 1990s when I was a solo rider on a cycle for it when everybody else was satisfied with the linguistic problems of Mithila which though was not unimportant in any way but for me was the offshoot of loosing statehood( read nationhood in those days of 1326 )when Muslims annexed Mithila.
MITHILA HAS BEEN SUJECTED TO TYRRANY OF OUTSIDERS SINCE ANTIQUITY, Ajatshatru was not the first to annex it but the Pandavas due to which our kings had sided Kauravas in Mahabharata. After the Jank dynasty Mithila was te first to adopt democracy in the world(though hisorian do not accept epical narrations but yet they accept in Vrijji / Vaishali the first democracy which too is Mithila( bounded southernly by Mother Ganga and northern the Himalayas and westward Sadanira(present western of Gandaka) and eastward Koshi( which has receded 120 km west in past 200 years) and hence call Mahananada or a boundary I propose Mithila is situated east of Bengal, west of Bhojpur south of Himalayas and north of Ganga( linguistically its native langauage Maithili is bounded by Nepali, Bengla, Magahi and Bhojpuri).
Ajatshatru's maternal grandparents were from Vaishali(mithila) but he annexed Mithila and so successive 5 emperors of the first Indian state formation magadh were almost by partcide( maybe due to that people of Mithila even do not regard south bank of te same Ganga as pious or may be my own expalnation that Patna named after Patnadevi, the one of 108 Shktipeetha where pat( clothes) of Sati had fallen apart from right thigh and and any place where down of Her navel fell is regarded VAM MARGEEs who believe on Panch Mkars..
Anyway , the scholistic tradition of Mithila has been continued despite onslaughts of Pal and Sen kings of Bengal and in fact the script of Maihtili has so much similarities that it was said by Suniti Kumar Chatujya .."So far we were discussing the history of Bengali literature was in fact history of Maithili literature.."
Gautam Buddha born in maternal gradparents home at Lumbini was also a Maithil lad of Vrijji clan not to talk of his 36 year ld 24th Tirthankar Lord Mahavir. And they were in the juxtaposition of Sanatan Vaidik culture of which Mithila has been native home where Rigved's I, II, III, and X Mandal were listned first; Shukla Yajurveda from Yagyavalkya and the Ashtavakra geeta and what not - oout of sox Astik philosophy Gautam's Nyyay, Vaisheshik by Kanad, , Kapil's Sankhy, Purvmimansa of Jaimimi are from Mithila( Only Yog b and Vedanta are from other part of Bhara).
Karnats were last independent kings who lost to Muslims in 1326. Karnats too were said to be from karnataka( though I doubt).
Since then we were under Muslims and or British(who connquered in Palassy in 1757 and in 1770 formed Board of Revenue at Patna and put Sarkar tirhut under it and passing through Bengal presidency it came out of that in 1912 under Bihar and is restive to be out of it which movement failed in 1956 with creation of linguistic states by I state Reorganisation Commission of India.
Vivisected in 1816 by Sugauli treaty we lost ouur head but gave India Kangda, Gadhwal, Darjeeling and Sikkim's supremacy. part of Mithila is alos in Bengla desh.
INITIALLY DR lAXMAN jHA ETC, IN 1950S DEMANDED UNIFICATION OF MITHILA IN INDIA AND NEPAL WHICH I DIFFERED IN 1992 AND PLEADED FOR SEPARATE MITHILA STATES IN INDIA AND NEPAL.(LIKE PUNJAB IN INDIA AND PAKAISTAN).
ANTARRASHTRIY MAITHILI PARISHAD AND ITS 36 AFFILIATES DEMAND mITHILA STATE ON THE GROUND OF SOCIO-ECNOMIC DISPARITY WITH REST OF bIHAR AND jHARKHAND( A PART IS IN West Bengal ALSO IN India).
Thai is our aim we are destined to give India its first cultural state:Mithila.
